Electro-Mechanical Corporation (EMC) was honored to be featured in Virginia Highlands Community College’s (VHCC) engaging and informative Welding Facebook Live event which aired on Wednesday, July 22. The discussion, a portion of which was filmed onsite at EMC on Tuesday, July 21, focused on the burgeoning field of welding as a rewarding career path in Southwest Virginia.

Representing EMC in the video Q&A were:

  • Gary Nelson, Plant Manager, Line Power (A Division of EMC)
  • Laura Boardwine, Senior HR Manager at EMC
  • Rondo Reynolds, Fabrication Area Manager at EMC

Highlights of the dialogue included the qualities and skill sets that EMC’s recruitment team looks for when hiring a welder, the benefits that EMC has derived from recruiting recent graduates of VHCC’s highly selective welding program and the company’s goal of becoming an employer of choice for recipients of VHCC’s Welding Career Studies Certificate.

“Over the years, we have had a great relationship with VHCC and consider them a solid talent pipeline for our future. This visit allowed us to meet their new president, Dr. Adam Hutchison, and to provide his team with an exceptional career resource for placing graduating welding students,” said Mike Stollings, vice president of human resources at Electro-Mechanical Corporation.
